PRECISION MAUSER RIFLE ACTIONS - Mayfair Engineering Mauser actions are a combination of the very latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) and manufacture, together with the very finest in traditional gunsmithing. Actions are made in magnum Mauser, standard and short, either in left or right hand. All lengths are available in either double square bridge, single square bridge or the standard round action. Mayfair Engineering precision Mauser actions are machined from solid bar stock using only certified materials at our own workshops in England, allowing total quality control. Each action and magazine are individually tailored to the particular caliber. The company’s philosophy of attention to detail has been used to good effect with a full understanding of the essential features of the original design. Mayfair actions are engineered to suit both modern and traditional calibers with no compromise on feed and function.

Receivers - The heart of a Mayfair magnum Mauser - the receiver. Each one is individually machined from a solid block of stress relieved 8620 nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, utilizing state of the art CNC machining and Electro Discharge Machining, before being hand finished and lapped to produce what we consider to be the ultimate bolt action. Receivers are available in short, standard and magnum lengths, double square bridge, single square bridge or the classic round action, right hand or left hand.

Bolts - As with the receiver, each bolt is hammer forged from EN36 (the UK equivalent to Carpenter 158 or 9310 steel) and is painstakingly machined to produce Mauser's legendary bolt with dual opposed front locking lugs, a top guide lug and third safety lug, possibly the world’s strongest and safest bolt configuration. Mayfair Mauser bolts are supplied as standard with a ‘scope cutout on the handle. However, bolts can be supplied without cutout upon request. All bolts come fully case hardened.

Bottom metal - Is machined from a solid block of 070M20 certified steel. Each bottom metal is manufactured for a particular caliber. Trigger guards can be supplied in either of two styles (Hunter or Safari) and all bottom metals are machined with a 4° inclusive draft angle around the entire profile to allow for ease of inletting and weight reduction. Hinged floor plates are opened by means of a push button release.

3-position safety - 3-position side safety is standard on all Mayfair magnum Mauser actions: an essential requirement if using telescopic sights.

Trigger - Fully adjustable.

Extractors - The classic Mauser full length extractors are machined in three different lengths from a solid bar of silicon manganese spring steel for unsurpassed strength and reliability.

Magazine - Mayfair has been very careful to incorporate the very finest features of the Mauser design, not least in the machining of the magazine and magazine opening. Our attention to detail addresses the correct lengths and widths for the caliber, incorporating the complex machining of the shoulder cutouts and angles in both the magazine box and the receiver underside to ensure perfect feed and function.

Heat Treatment - The actions we sell are heat treated and ready to be used with no further hardening required. The downside of supplying fully heat-treated actions is the extra work done. The bolt, in-particular, is a Best Grade finish as standard. No further fitting is possible after case hardening. The bolts come out at approximately 60Rc. This time obviously has cost implications! Receivers on the other hand being made out of 8620 are heat treated in such a way that they reach their core hardness and are tempered to around 35Rc. The process we use prevents carbon being absorbed into the surface thereby leaving the actions able to be embellished, color case hardened or case hardened should the client so desire. If people do decide to color case harden/case harden, they would then harden to about 58Rc.
